FAMILY FUN HALLOWEEN NIGHTS: LOS ANGELES
October is here and it’s always my favorite time of year. I’ve put together a guide of some fun Halloween themed activities to try out with the littles. From light and fun to the truly spooky, there’s something on here that everyone will enjoy!
RISE of the Jack O’Lanterns
Location: Descanso Gardens / 1418 Descanso Dr. La Canada Flintridge, CA 91011
When: October 3rd through November 2nd
Tell Me More: I am so excited about this! 5,000 hand-carved illuminated jack o’lanterns created by professional artists and sculptors arranged in creative ways along a 1/3-mile scenic walking trail all set to an original music score produced exclusively for The RISE! Family friendly, all ages.
Location: 4602 Morse Ave, Sherman Oaks, CA 91423
When: October 17 & 18; October 21 through October 31st
Hours: 6pm – 9pm Sun – Thurs; 6pm – 10pm Fri & Sat
Tell me more: Tucked away in a residential neighborhood, this is an amazing homemade Halloween themed carnival that is perfect for all ages. There is nothing scary or spooky to the delight of the little ones yet older kids will have such a great time as well. There’s a can’t miss water & light show set to classical music and familiar Halloween songs every 15 minutes or so. There’s optical illusions, magic tricks and just so many amazing details that you won’t want to miss. Such a fun time especially for those that are a little too frightened by the typical Halloween spookiness that you just won’t find here.
Cost: FREE, all except the Tree House tour ($10) which is a must do!
Halloween Time at Disneyland
Location: 1313 Disneyland Dr, Anaheim, CA 92802
When: Now through November 1st
Tell me more: The Halloween decorations alone at Disneyland are worth the trip. Main Street USA is transformed into a Pumpkin Festival, Frontierland has a traditional skeleton display to observe Dia de los Muertos and of course, the always popular Haunted Mansion Holiday, featuring Jack Skellington, from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, and the residents of Halloween Town.
Legoland Brick-or-Treat Party Nights
Location: 1 Legoland Dr, Carlsbad, CA 92008
When: October 3, 10, 17, 24 and 30th starting at 5pm
Tell me more: Halloween fun Legoland style with music, costume contests, Halloween Brick-or-Treat Trail, dance parties, and more!
Halloween Ghost Train at Griffith Park
Tell me more: Here’s where things start to get a little spooky. We went here with Joseph when he was 5. We waited in line for a bit but could just tell from the look in his eyes to his voice trembling as he asked us questions, questions, so many questions about what was going to happen on the ride that he just wasn’t ready yet… We haven’t been back since. Turns out spooky vibes just aren’t his style. But if you have kids that are ready for the next level of Halloween and want to start embracing the spookiness of the season without going full on terror, then this one is for you.
Los Angeles Haunted Hayride, Boogeyman
Ages: Teens and Up
Location: Griffith Park (OLD ZOO), 4730 Crystal Springs Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90027
When: Various dates in October
Tell me more: It’s dark. It’s scary. And it’s haunting. Not for the faint of heart and this one is for your teens. With 5 scare zones, ooh boy, they will love it!
